Lighting up Feyenoord History

Stadion Feyenoord NV has decided to replace all 288 of their iconic floodlights with LED lighting. This will not only allow for higher energy and cost saving, but it has also provided the chance for Feyenoord fans to own a physical memory of this great club and renowned stadium, thanks to the auction taking place on the MatchWornShirt platform. These quintessential pieces of Feyenoord memorabilia have made its home in the Stadion Feyenoord for the past 28 years, lighting up and overseeing innumerable unforgettable moments like the 2002 UEFA Cup triumph against Borussia Dortmund, as well as their Eredivisie titles in 1999 and 2017. These lights have also lit up the successes of other teams such as the 1997 UEFA Cup final, which saw Barcelona crowned as champions against PSG, and also the 2000 UEFA Euro final, which saw France beat Italy. Each floodlight is unique, narrating its own story through their variable conditions. Emphasising each one's singularity, they have also been fitted with a numbered tag and coupled with an official certificate of authenticity, provided by Feyenoord.

The auction started on the 6th of December and is running until 12th December via the MatchWornShirt platform, where Feyenoord has already held various auctions for the worn and signed shirts of their players. All items will have a starting price of 94 euros as a reference to 1994, the year that the Stadion Feyenoord was renovated, with the proceeds from the lights going to the Feyenoord Foundation.

These floodlights weigh nearly 20 kilograms and are around 40 centimetres in length and 25 centimetres in height. Due to these unusual characteristics, the floodlights can only be directly collected by the winners at the Stadion Feyenoord itself, between the 14th and the 23rd of December, an endeavour well worth the ultimate piece of Feyenoord history.
